Operating
Room Statistics
The Division of Neurosurgery at the University
of Toronto collectively performs over 7,000
neurosurgical operations each year. This
is the largest number of cases performed
in any single neurosurgical centre in North
America. This case-load is divided up amongst
the 4 participating teaching hospitals:
The Hospital for Sick Children, The Toronto
Western Hospital, Sunnybrook and Womens
College Health Sciences Centre, and St.
Michaels Hospital. Of the 7,000 cases
performed annually, over 4,000 are cranial
procedures and over 1500 are open spinal
procedures. Examples of numbers of selected
neurosurgical procedures performed over
the past 5 years at the University of Toronto
are listed at left.
